Cycling on Mallorca? Five bike routes to discover
Do you like cycling? Then Mallorca is the destination. The island has no less than 1250 kilometres of cycle paths.
Through flat landscapes with orange groves and olive groves and through hilly and even mountainous areas with tough climbs and challenging descents. So it’s very varied. This makes Mallorca an interesting cycling island for all ages: from touring cyclists to fanatic cyclists. And from 8 to 80. Especially now that the electric bike is an option.
For a number of years we have been giving the five-day training Retirement in sight on Mallorca. So we know the island well. Recently we expanded our offer with the training Retirement in Sight Cycling on Mallorca. During this training the participants look back together on their working lives and look ahead to their new phase of life. In inspiring sessions, participants gain the insights they need to design their new lives. During these five days we alternate these sessions with beautiful bike rides on the island. We have selected these tours carefully. They are therefore also suitable for older cyclists. Participants in our training will receive an e-bike. If you are an experienced cyclist, you might also want to use a regular sports bike with gears.
Platja The Palma
Platja de Palma is the Mallorcan name for Playa de Palma. It is a 4 kilometer long beach on the south side of the island. In this area there are mainly flat cycling routes with sometimes some hills. There is a 20 kilometer long cycle path along the coast between the capital Palma de Mallorca and the coastal village of El Arenal.
Cycling trip to Bunoyala
Bunoyola is a village in the Serra de Tramuntana. This is a mountain range along the northwest coast of Mallorca. It is a beautiful area that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have cycling routes of different levels and beautiful views over the mountain ranges and over the sea.
Sencelles and Costix
The bike tour to the villages of Sencelles and Costitx leads through the flat land in theCampos. You cycle here on flat country roads that are almost completely free of cars, along vineyards and olive groves. The area is known for its archaeological excavations.
Aláro and Binnisalem
Aláro and Binnisalem are authentic Mallorcan villages worth exploring. The villages are located at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains, in the middle of a wine region. The area is hilly and takes you past the green heart of the island. You can ride a bike and enjoy the green view. And on a hot day, a mountain stream will cool you down.
Even more beautiful cycling routes
The routes described above are included in our training Pension in sight Cycling on Mallorca. The island has many more beautiful cycling routes. On the east coast, for example, is the seaside resort of Cala Millor. From here you can follow beautiful routes, along the coast and in the Llevant Nature Park. Alcúdia, on the northwest side of Mallorca, is also popular with cyclists. Here are several cycling hotels where you can have your bike maintained and stored. Bike tours are also organized from here.
